Archi+ was entrusted to design two semi-detached villas within the footprint of a mature garden connected to a main residence. The task that lie ahead was to design such spaces in a way and manner to have their enclosing fabric in constant dialogue with the surrounding site. The garden itself is protected by high rubble walls, which served as gatekeepers to the passage of time within such a space. The sense of seclusion being the greatest attribute to the garden had to be adapted by the build in a way and manner that the site seems to, naturally, become part of the new development.
The resulting structure was kept as low in height as possible with it being fragmented into various individual spaces, connected together by recessed vestibules with vegetation and trees being used as buffers between the different blocks. Such treatment lent itself perfectly to a sense of intimacy and shelter within the structure, reminiscent of the spirit of the site itself.
